Ken Nichols

I am writing this as the daughter-in -law of Ken Nichols, to try to keep everyone up to date on what’s going on. Ken wasn’t feeling well & having stomach pain, went to the ER in LaCrosse on April 5. He was admitted and discharged on April 8. During that time some labs were done and a biopsy of his liver. He returned on the 10th for a PET scan & MRI. On Tue April 14 we met with the Oncologist to find out the biopsy & scans would show Ken has primary colon cancer with mets to his liver. They say this is not the typical form of colon cancer, but a more aversive/rapid growing kind. Without any treatments his prognosis is grim. He started his first dose of chemotherapy that afternoon, followed by two more doses the next  two days. He will have labs & occasional OV fluid treatments & then round 2 of chemo infusions in a few weeks. Following that round of chemo they will do another PET scan to see how well he has responded to the chemo.  Meanwhile, he has had a couple calls, not able to eat much,  and sleeping a lot. This Covid-19 stuff has kept everyone fairly distant but we are all trying to make the best of it, as well as trying to be supportive in any way to Ken & Kathy! She needs all the help she can get through this too, as this is hard on both of them!  We will try to keep you informed of what’s going on, and encourage calls, cards and at some point...visits if you are feeling well.
