Kelly (Rhodes) Wever

Hi Family and Friends! As you know, Kelly has patiently been waiting for new lungs since she was added to a wait list  in June 2013. She has prayed and stayed compliant with her CF medical regiments, so when the day would come she would be ready to fight! Well last night on January 29th, 2017 at 10:30 pm... The long awaited call came! There was a possible match. 


We were at Barnes within the hour and Kelly was getting admitted.  The next several hours were just a waiting game... Even though the lungs were a match on paper, the lungs still needed to be harvested and inspected to ensure they were healthy. We finally got news about 4:30 am that the rare donor lungs would be coming all the way from California! Barnes sent their surgical team to harvest the lungs personally! They wanted to see them with their own eyes and remove them with their own hands.  They knew the importance of these lungs... They were truly a miracle!


Kelly's new lungs made the cross country trek safely. Just moments ago, Kelly was taken into surgery to begin her journey to Breathe Deep! The next 48 hours will be critical and the following weeks will bring many ups and downs. We know that the fight and strength inside of Kelly is more than any of us could imagine. She will prevail through the challenges ahead, just as she has conquered the ones in her recent years! We are so proud of her and cannot wait to see her breath easy.
