Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. If you know Katie, then you know she has a few major passions - family, God, cheese dip, and promotion of early detection of breast cancer. She has fought hard for over 20 years for this cause, and has most recently battled it harder than ever before as government and special interest groups' guidelines for mammography shift and put coverage and access for this life-saving test in question. On December 3, 2015, Katie's battle has changed as she now faces her own personal diagnosis of breast cancer - invasive ductal carcinoma. She is 42 years old. She has no family history. She went for annual mammograms, every year. And her cancer became present in a year's time and was found on her annual mammogram. Thank God for annual mammograms for women ages 40+! Katie is living proof of why the groups changing their mammography guidelines are WRONG. It is with that in mind, that this diagnosis is more than just a personal cancer battle for Katie. It is an opportunity to make a change for the better. So, in addition to praying for Katie and offering some words of encouragement, please consider:
- Tell the women in your life 40+ to have their mammogram every year!
- Sign and pass along this petition to as many people as you can; Katie is hoping for 100k signatures for Christmas! www.beatcancercr.com/petition (
