If you are reading this site you presumably know by now that Karena and our family have been dealing with some extremely tough news received over the past few weeks. The cervical cancer that Karena was treated for last year in early Spring, (a complete hysterectomy followed by radiation) has metastasized to a couple different areas diagnosed by a biopsy and a PET scan performed last month. This news came as quite a shock to all of us, as she physically has been feeling great and had simply gone in for a scan as a follow up from the previous treatments. The road ahead is going to be a tough one according to "text book expectations". But as we all know, Karena is a fighter and there's absolutely no reason that she can't far exceed success in any old standard or statistic! If you haven't had the chance to spend time with her in recent weeks or speak with her, please do! Her grace under these circumstances is truly remarkable and not seen very often. I was with her and Dustin while they received her diagnosis and prognosis in the doctor's office. She actually thought to console the female doctor giving her the news and made the comment to her, "I feel so bad for you too, you have such a tough job!" How many people are actually thinking about anyone besides themselves during a time such as that?! She truly amazes me! We just love that girl so much💚 The plan now is to administer chemo once every 3 weeks and she started that yesterday. She also had her final day of teaching last Thursday (for this school year) and they sent her off with such an outpouring of love! Her house looked like a florist!😊 Please feel free to use this site to leave messages for Karena!
