Welcome to Kael's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

As many of you know, our son Kael is about to undergo his 2nd major heart surgery. His first surgery was successfully completed when he was just 13 days old and has lasted him over 13 years! On July 30th, Kael will have a procedure known as the Supported Ross Procedure at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. This procedure is vital in order to keep Kael alive by replacing his severely damaged aortic valve and to properly address his enlarged left ventricle. The process will be to replace Kael’s aortic heart valve with his own pulmonary heart valve. With his pulmonary valve being his own tissue, it should grow with him without future intervention. However, he will need to have a donor valve inserted into the easier accessible pulmonary position. This donor valve should last him 10-15 years before it needs to be replaced. This entire procedure will likely last about 6-8 hours and Kael will remain at Children’s Hospital for a week to 10 days. He then will recover at home for a few weeks and should be recovered in time to start 8th grade.

This is a big surgery for Kael and we appreciate all of your thoughts, prayers and encouragement!

With much gratitude,

Jeff, Megan and Eiley Pierquet
