JWeb has had a recurrence of oral cancer that has spread to his jaw and tongue. Past occurrences were just localized to the tongue and were removed without major impact. This time is different. Jay underwent a 10 hour surgery on Tuesday Jan 30th where they removed the cancerous portion of the left lower jaw and left tongue. A piece of the fibula bone was used to reconstruct the jaw bone and soft tissue from the leg was used to rebuild the tongue and floor of the mouth. Radiation and possibly chemo will start in approximately 4-6 weeks. He is starting to walk around a bit with a boot to support the fibula.
Jay has a long road to recovery ahead of him. As you might expect he is experiencing many mixed emotions. Let's rally together as his friends and family! Please express your positive thoughts and words of encouragement to Jay to help him through the difficult days ahead. Video messages would be really cool and knowing the reporter in Jay, he would really dig seeing you live and in person!
We will try to post updates every few days as they come available. Please keep Jay, Grace and Victoria in your thoughts and prayers.
