Judith (Judy) Sealy Judy Sealy updates

First post: Feb 8, 2018 Latest post: Mar 12, 2018
As many of you know Judy has been in rehab at Trinity Towers for some previous medical issues. On Sunday 2/4 She was transported to the ER at Bay Area. She was taken there for pain in her abdomin area and being disoriented. After a long wait in the ER it was determined she had a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
Side note - when the elderly get a UTI it can cause confusion/disorientation.

Monday 2/5 - Judy was no better, even after being on antibiotics. Her confusion continued and severe pain in the abdomin. More tests. It was determined she had a hole in her colon. We had no other options but to agree to surgery. Judy was moved to ICU and the surgeon was at her side within minutes. We were told her chances of survival were very low. We had no other options. The family gathered. The surgery was about 3 hours.
She made it through surgery! A 12" piece of her colon was removed.
Side note - this could explain why she's been feeling so bad and not wanting to eat.

Tuesday 2/6 Judy was kept sedated. She continued on the ventilator. Kidney function continued to improve. Vitals good. Many medicines. She has to get off some of the meds before they can take her off the ventilator.

Wednesday 2/7 They have stopped her sedative. She's opening her eyes occasionally. They are trying to get her breathing on her own. When she does open her eyes she seems confused, that's not surprising. She has squeezed our hands once or twice.  Doctors tell us Judy won't remember any of what occurred - we hope they're right!
Our wish for today is to get her off the ventilator.
Update - ventilator won't be coming out today. They will reassess her in the morning.  There has been more eye opening and more hand sqeezes.
