Jones Hammel Jones Cary Hammel

Our sweet baby boy, Jones Cary Hammel was born to us quite unexpectedly on 11/3/17 at 1:46am. He was 1lb 15 ounces and 13.4 inches long. Due to Jones being so premature (barely 26 weeks), he has been on a ventilator to assist with his breathing since birth. Jones Cary had a very 
difficult first 72 hours of life and collapsed most of his right lung and the lower part of his left lung. He had a few very scary episodes where the doctors had difficulty ventilating him, but he has thankfully had a much more stable course the last 72 hours and is on his third kind of 
ventilator. Our little guy has been such an amazing fighter, he is really vigorous and was actually "big" for his gestational age. He has had a lot of positive milestones over the last couple of days such as now being on full breastmilk feeds (through a feeding tube) and had his arterial IV taken out yesterday. He is an incredible little man, with a full head of very blonde hair and very big hands and feet (like his dad!), so everyone thinks he will be pretty tall.  Jones will likely be in the NICU at least 3 months and possibly longer. So we are definitely trying to take it day by day and be thankful for every good day he has, however we know it will be a long and windy road forward. He is the love of our life already and know he has so much love out there already from all of our family and friends.
