Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.
Jean's story starts back on March 23rd when Sue brought her to the ER at Regions Hospital. Jean had been battling a long standing case of cellulitis in both her legs when on that Wednesday, Mom complained of 'Just not feeling right'. Once admitted, the Doctors and Nurses swarmed around her like bees around honey. Her pulse was close to 175, her blood pressure morbidly high, and found out she was in A-fib. They admitted her that evening, and set her up with monitors, medicine, and heavy observation. Sue was awoken on Saturday morning the 26th by a phone call from Jean's nurse telling her that her mother had had a stroke at 2 am that morning.  She suffered a left-side frontal stroke that initially took away her speech.  By that evening, Jean;s speech was 80 percent improved, and by Easter Sunday, almost totally back! With a week of PT, OT, and Speech Therapy behind her, she went to Lyngblomsten Transitional Care. Mom flourished and enjoyed her time at Lyngblomsten for close to 3 weeks.  Set up to go home on Friday, April 22nd, on Thursday the 21st, she lost her appetite, 'just didn't feel good', and had a temp of 101. Lyngblomsten returned her to Regions that afternoon. Mom had a UTI upon entry (believed to be the cause of her malaise), and while there, was in and out of different arryhthmia, including V-Tach. On April 27th, Jean was again discharged to Lyngblomsten. TCU. There for less that a week, she again lost her appetite and was becoming noticeably depressed. Changes in behavior and personality were observed, and on Thursday May 5th, Jean returned to Regions. Admitted for malnutrition, medication refusal, depression, A-fib, and C-diff. Jean was in very rough shape. Faced with complicated decisions during a family/physician care conference, a nasogastric tube was placed on May 8th. Since it's placement, Jean has been treated for the C-diff, and has received despartately needed nutrition and medications. We have recently noticed the life coming back into her.
