Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We are so grateful for all of your prayers, support and encouragement during this time! A special thanks to all who have visited Jake, sent care packages and cards, brought food and other gifts, given gift cards and other monetary donations, and contributed to the GoFundMe page and other fundraisers that friends have organized!

It was very shocking when just over a year ago, Jake had a ten pound malignant tumor removed from his abdomen. After discovering it was a type of cancer called neuroblastoma, which is typically found in very young children, Jake continued his treatment with proton radiation therapy. At that point, it seemed he was cancer free! Jake graduated high school, started playing baseball again, and attended Central College in Pella, Iowa last fall.

Unfortunately, routine scans in early 2016 revealed a reoccurrence of the neuroblastoma. Jake has begun treatment again, which includes several rounds of chemotherapy and possible stem cell transplants in the near future. He is so fortunate to be a St. Jude patient, being cared for at OSF in Peoria. He will most likely have more treatment in Chicago as well.

Jake knows that God is in control. His faith is strong, his attitude is positive, and he continues his battle.
