Paul started feeling ill on April 22, 2020. He is usually the one who never gets sick so we all thought it would blow over. His symptoms got worse, and we suspected COVID - but couldn't be sure without the testing which was difficult to get. Information about Covid had come fast and furious and fluid so we had been told to try to treat at home as much as possible without an official diagnosis. His condition was not getting any better by the two week mark and so upon the advice of the UC Health TeleMed doctor and family, I took him into the ER on May 4th (Star Wars day! one of his favorite movie series).  It took me an hour to get him from upstairs to the car to go to the hospital because he was so weak. At the ER we were admitted immediately and there we found his O2 levels to be extremely low and a cough he could not control  (who can find an Oxymeter or a forehead thermometer in this town!). From there I watched a stream of great and caring health care professionals come into the room to do a chest x-ray, swab his nose (finally the test ), give him oxygen and start an IV. They have to change out mask, clothes covering , gloves, and clean their face shield every time they leave the room.  He was admitted to the hospital upon positive diagnosis of COVID - 19 and they kicked me out (nicely of course).
