Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Hayden has a condition called pectus excavatum.  This basically means that the center of his chest is sunken in,  He was diagnosed as a young child by our family doctor.  As he has grown it has grown more extreme so we were referred on to a doctor in Des Moines.  To repair Hayden's chest they will be doing a pectus bar procedure.  He will have the surgery on May 25, 2017.  A titanium bar will be inserted into Hayden's chest through small incisions on the side of his rib cage.  The procedure is fairly short, only about an hour, but we will be in Des Moines for approximately 5 days for pain management and to help Hayden learn how to move with as little pain as possible through these first few days.  The bar will be in place for approximately 3 years and then removed.  While the bar is in place he can not be involved in full contact sports such as football or baseball.  We have been told he will still be able to play basketball and he is happy about that.  We appreciate your prayers as we walk this journey alongside Hayden this Spring and Summer and moving forward the next 3 years.
