Glenn was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (Primary Sclerosing Choloangitis) of the liver in 2012. This is a progressive disease where the bile ducts gradually plug up, leading to liver failure. Initially, an ERCP can be done to open up some larger ducts but eventually many smaller ducts plug up as well. The only long term treatment is a liver transplant.
The course and symptoms of this disease varies greatly with individuals. Gradually Glenn's liver enzymes have been rising to the point where the benefits of a transplant out way the risks. His symptoms have accelerated this year leading to end stage liver failure. He just completed and extensive evaluation at MAYO transplant center. He has been placed on a waiting list for a liver transplant from a deceased donor, which is quite long. MAYO transplant center has recommended pursing the possibility of a living donor. If you are interested in becoming a living donor visit mayoclinic.org/livingdonor or call toll free 866-227-1569.
Glenn is now on medical leave from work, awaiting a transplant. By faith we move forward trusting God's provision. We appreciate your prayers.
