On Monday June 26th, Gene suffered a heart attack. He was taken to Baltimore-Washington Medical Center and had a stent placed. While placing the stent, the physician noticed he had a Ventral Septal Defect (VSD) or hole in his heart as a result of the heart attack. He was transferred to to University of Maryland Medical Center and placed on a balloon pump and is on ECMO (heart and lung bypass) to allow his heart to heal and get him ready for surgery. He lungs began to fill with fluid and he required intubation and is on mechanical ventilation. He is sedated and resting comfortably.
Despite everything, he remains stable and just waiting for surgery. He is receiving outstanding care from a staff that is second to none.
