More than a month ago, Akram's 18 year old son, Cyrus, was involved in
an unfortunate car accident. He was a front seat passenger to a driver
going 60 mph on a 25 mph road, though he was wearing his seat belt,
Cyrus is the only individual who remains in the hospital fighting for
his ability to move again. Cyrus has had 2 main surgeries to help with
reconstruction of his neck, back and legs.
The doctors imagine that
Cyrus will be committed to a wheel chair for life. Fortunately, he is
able to talk and can see what is happening around him, however, his BP
is low where he has very little ability to move from his hospital bed to
a wheel chair at all. All of this is taking a high toll on Cyrus's
mental status, a student who two weeks after the accident was to attend
medical school, is now struggling to sit, stand, eat, let alone remain
positive.
Akram has stayed with her son from ICU to now Rehab during
his hospital stay. The family is facing high medical bills, hospital
stay expenses along with the need to renovate their home in order for
Cyrus to live a full life in a wheel chair comfortably at home, after he
can be released from the hospital.
