Ev was taken to the ED 3/3 for right sided weakness. It's not the best news. Evan has a cyst/tumor in his brain stem. We've met with a neurosurgeon from UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital and the prognosis is good! We're treating the swelling with steroids at home. He's ok. He's strong. He's still a feisty, happy, brilliant little dude.
They seem pretty optimistic. He might be able to do all of this out patient. We might not be able to do surgery, as in it might not be able to safely get to it. It's in the anterior area of the medulla. The tumor might not reach the outside of the brain stem, so he'd have to go through the brain stem. We need more imaging to make a plan.
Everyday, Ev surprises us with his ease and positive attitude. He is currently still able to go to school and leads a pretty normal life right now.
