Eric's journey all began back in July 2017 when a mole he had on his left arm changed colors and started looking different. The Doctor took a biopsy of it in late August which ultimately came back positive for Cancer. Eric was then referred to Levine's Cancer Institute to discuss surgery. In the two week timeframe it took to get into the Surgery Oncologist another spot appeared below where the original mole was located. The Doctors later identified this as a satellite. Eric underwent surgery on October 17th. The Surgery went well. Pathology reports came back positive in the cervical node (lymph node by the neck), based on this his diagnosis was stage 4 melanoma cancer. After lots of blood work, body scans and doctor visits it was recommended that Eric start treatment of immunotherapy. The Doctor and clinical staff tried to get Eric into a clinical study however he was deemed ineligible based on his severe osteoarthritis which compromises his performance status for the trial. After days of full work-up of labs and PET Scans Eric began immunotherapy on December 11, 2017.
