A few weeks ago we started notice that Elizabeth’s face was swollen, especially when she got up in the morning. We went to the doctor who initially prescribed allergy medicine. The thoughts were that the relatively warm fall caused some kind of allergic reaction to perhaps a mold or leaf. Lizzie took the meds across the Thanksgiving weekend. When it was not helping I took her back to the doctor on Monday, 11/28. The doctor sent us for a chest x-ray. As we were headed home from the x-ray the doctor called with the news that a mass was seen on the x-ray. He wanted Lizzie seen by doctors at DuPont or CHOP and said to go to one of the hospitals right away. We decided to head to DuPont and the doctor called ahead so that they were expecting us.
Upon arrival and across the next two days many tests were done to assess the mass. MRI, spinal, bone marrow, a pic line inserted in her leg. Lizzie was initially admitted to the ICU because there were fears her breathing could be compromised by the mass. On Wednesday she moved from ICU to a regular room. (It’s the small victories!!)
We continue to wait for an official diagnosis. With trust in our Faith and the love and support from family and friends and the amazing doctors here at DuPont, we begin this journey filled with hope. Please keep us in your prayers.
