In 2004, Edith was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, and doctors now say a kidney transplant is critically necessary.
This has been an incredibly difficult time for Edith—financially, physically and emotionally. During such a challenging time, she is thankful for the love and support of her husband, Vicente, and their children, grandchildren and loved ones.
Although her activities are somewhat limited these days, she enjoys cooking and gardening when she has the energy. She looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to simply live her life, go back to work and enjoy more time with her family. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $250,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Because she lives more than an hour away from her transplant center, she incurs substantial expenses for each evaluation and doctors’ visit. Her declining health forced her to stop working, adding to the financial strain.
