On Friday, October 30th, both Duane and youngest child, Sadie tested positive for COVID. While Sadie remained symptom free and Emilly and the boys tested negative, Duane seemed to have just about every reported symptom of this nasty virus.
After a week of trying to fight off the virus, it seemed that Duane’s condition was worsening. It was getting to the point where his coughing was so bad it was affecting his breathing and his ability to be mobile.
After consulting with his primary care team, they thought the best course of action was to take him to the ER.
Over the course of the day in the ER his condition was worsening despite being given oxygen. His care team was actively monitoring and adjusting his oxygen, but he was just fighting so hard to breathe. The decision was made to admit him to the ICU and place him on a ventilator.
Duane is currently in the COVID ICU at St. Marys hospital receiving treatment for COVID. He remains on the ventilator as his care team works diligently to ease his breathing and help him recover.
