Our journey started on 1/18/2018 when we went to visit Drew in Asheville. The night we got there he went to the ER with swollen legs. Later they discovered he had a blood clot in his left lung and his heart was only pumping at 5% (ejection fraction). He was admitted to CICU at Mission Hospital in critical condition. We stayed there 10 days with the plan of getting him to UNC-CH as soon as possible.

We were home for 8 days on a Life Vest and Milrinone pump. He wasn’t eating or keeping anything down so our local cardiologist had him admitted to the ICU at CarolinaEast in New Bern. He was flown to UNC-CH on 2/8/18.

They think this all started because of a virus that attacked his heart. ❤️
