Welcome to our CaringBridge website.  Many of you have expressed concern about Doug's  health issues.  Doug and JoAn's daughters, Joanna and Susie will be using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place.

As you may recall, Doug underwent surgery for prostate cancer in October of 2012 followed by surgery to remove colon cancer in February of 2014. In March of 2018, he underwent surgery to remove a small malignant tumor from his brain followed by 7 days of low dose specific radiation to the surgical site.  All of the surgeries were successful with very minimal side-effects after the most recent surgery (impairment of his right hand which makes writing and typing challenging).

After periodic follow-up MRI's of the brain, the most recent being August 7, we learned this past week that Dad has three new cancerous growths on the dura (covering of the brain).  These have not yet penetrated the brain itself.  The radiology oncologist advises immediate intervention.  This  will include 15 large doses of whole brain radiation over a period of three weeks.  It is possible that these treatments will be followed by chemotherapy.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We believe in the power of prayer and covet your prayers for Dad and Mom during this difficult time.  Our  mom's dementia continues to progress.  She requires full-time care.  Thank you for visiting.
