In November 2017 I was diagnosed with an enlarged ascending aortic root. Often nicknamed (the widow maker) because this condition is asymptomatic, I was lucky to have found it during my annual physical. After consultations at Mayo Hospital in Rochester and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, it has been determined my life will be cut short without open heart surgery to repair my aortic root. After much consideration I've decided to have the surgery at Upenn on April 23rd. I feel confident and at peace with the doctor and the decision to move forward. Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. This will, no doubt, be my biggest event of my life and the first event for which I won't be awake. God has a way of giving us things we can't control in our lives to reinforce that he is in control of our lives. Please lift me up in prayer.
