Early Friday morning, April 7th, Dottie was taken to the E.R. and it was determined that she had suffered a large stroke, and most likely several smaller strokes.  It's possible that the first stroke occurred as early as 2 weeks prior (when she suffered a severe bought of vertigo).  Over the weekend she was mostly sedated while the doctors tried to determine her ability to breathe on her own.  Mark & Summer (and Allister, Karter, Amelia, & Kaleb), and Jeff & Becky were able to join Roger by Friday afternoon - to pray, wait, and talk to Dottie to let her know she was surrounded by so many loving, caring people - and held in God's healing, caring, strong hands.  Gradually more and more squeezes and head nods gave way to extended times of eyes open, and even the beginnings of words being formed.  Then Monday morning the breathing tube came out.  From here she's got a long road of recovery ahead.  But we are grateful for her strength, for the love of a community that has surrounded her and Roger, and most of all for a God who loves and holds her.  There have been many prayers spoken, some tears shed, and many Scriptures read and recalled - including this one from Psalm 103.  This is our prayer:
Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Keep checking back for updates.
In Christ,
Mark & Becky (the kids)
