Donald Westra Don's journey

First post: Sep 13, 2021 Latest post: Apr 15, 2024
In early 2021, after months of unexplained back pain, Don was diagnosed with lung cancer with metastasis to his sacrum.

Don is under the care of some fantastic doctors at Memorial Sloan. Shortly after his diagnosis, he started radiation and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy proved to be ineffective and as a result, his treatment recently changed to immunotherapy. His doctors are optimistic that this will be helpful in managing his cancer.

Through the past several months, there have been many obstacles that Don and Mary have had to face – reactions to medications, constant nausea, pain, blood clots, exhaustion, frustration, and of course, a huge lifestyle change.

Don and Mary have a strong faith in the Lord and know that He will never leave their side. They are beyond grateful for the outpouring love their family and friends continue to show them day in and day out.

Upon Mary’s request, we have set up this page to help close friends and family stay up to date regarding Don’s journey. We hope that this will help alleviate the stress of updating so many people individually (what a problem to have!) while also having a place to update important prayer requests.

‘Peace be still

Say the word and I will

Set my feet upon the sea

'Til I'm dancing in the deep

Peace be still

You are here so it is well

Even when my eyes can't see

I will trust the voice that speaks’

With Love, Joy
