Dick Mollers

On Friday, August 14, Dick was taken to the hospital with severe abdominal pain and a fever.  Due to the fever, a COVID test was administered.  It came back negative; he was diagnosed with colitis and an infection.

On Monday, 8/17, we were told that they found leukemia and they took a biopsy.  We received those results today, 8/19.

He has an aggressive form of leukemia, AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).  Due to his age, he is not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant.  He is also not able to tolerate heavy infusion so his treatment plan is for oral and inject-able chemotherapy.  They found some minor issues with his heart so that will be monitored closely.  He will be in the hospital for another 5-7 days.  Chemo started today so they need to see how his body responds before they send him home.

Since he has not been unwell (with the exception of a few days with colitis), we are really shocked right now .  We are all having a hard time processing everything.

He has expressed that although he is okay with people knowing, he does not want to talk about it, so we'd ask that you'd honor his wishes if you interact with him.  Cards and comments are appreciated!

Due to COVID, he will be unable to have visitors at home when he is discharged from the hospital.
