Derek has been fighting brain cancer for several years. He was originally diagnosed in 2009, at 20 years old, with a very large brain tumor in his left frontal lobe. It was removed by the neurosurgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. One year later, an MRI showed the tumor was growing again. Derek started 18 months of chemotherapy. After chemo was completed, he finished college, moved to South Carolina, got married and bought a house. In January of 2015 the tumor started to grow again. He started chemotherapy treatments for the second time., which were completed in April of 2016. Unfortunately, the tumor started growing again. The plan now is to try to remove the tumor. Derek is scheduled to have surgery at Duke Medical Center on September 2, 2016. Please keep Derek in your prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
