Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

My dad, Dennis,  is in hospice care. He entered hospice on February 7. As most of you know, Dennis contracted the flu between Christmas and New Years and was hospitalized at Regions Hospital for 8 days. My mom also contracted the flu at the same time and they were able to be on the same floor so they could visit each other. Eventually, my mom was discharged back to her apartment.

It was determined that my dad needed more care and therapy to help him regain his strength and mobility, so he was discharged to the long term care part of Waverly Gardens (the senior community in North Oaks that they had been living in for nearly 2 years.) After 3 weeks in their long term care unit,  he was deemed ready for discharge. However, it was clear he would need more help with activities of daily living, so we moved both of my parents to Johanna Shores (JS) in Arden Hills.

At JS, my mom moved into an apartment in the assisted living section and my dad was admitted to the long term care memory care unit. He has continued to decline. He developed pneumonia and began to refuse eating. He has delirium and is fading in and out of consciousness. He is mostly non responsive at this point. It was decided it would be best to have him receive hospice services so he can be made comfortable as he lets go.

Both of my sisters are traveling to MN to be together with him. He is getting good care and the hospice staff have been kind and helpful. We will keep you posted as things develop.
