As many of you know, I went into preterm labor on a June 17th, 2016. My water broke when I was 23 weeks 4 days pregnant. Efforts were made to prolong my pregnancy, but Declan had other plans. On June 20th, 2016 at 24 weeks exactly, Declan Ryan Bennett made his dramatic entrance into this world weighing 1lb 8oz measuring 12in long. His fight started off very strong, he came out kicking, crying, and breathing on his own (much to everyone's surprise). Declan would go on to be diagnosed with chronic lung disease and Pulmonary interstitial emphysema (PIE) which would in turn made it very difficult for Declan to come off and stay off the ventilator for more than a few days. Doctors also found a grade 1 bleed in his brain which is the smallest and least worrisome of brain bleeds, but they also found that the ventricles in his brain were slightly larger than "normal". Neurologists weren't anticipating this would cause any long term damage but it's been closely monitored through monthly head ultrasounds and weekly head circumferences. Which the ultrasounds show it still being mild with very small growth and the head circumferences have been on target. Our next issue we were faced with we're his hernias in his groin. One of the more minor issues, easy fix and have remained reduciable. Follow our long journey home with this page :)
