Recently, following tests which included a mammogram, ultrasounds, biopsies, and MRI’s, Debi was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. “Invasive Ductal Carcinoma” in her left breast and “Invasive Lobular Carcinoma” in her right.
Debi has chosen to have surgery May 10, and because of a HER-2 positive diagnosis on her left breast, she will be required to undergo chemotherapy after she has sufficiently recovered from her surgery.
HER-2 is a protein whose presence promotes the growth of breast cancer, and is less likely to be sensitive to the hormone therapy common for cancers which are estrogen or progesterone positive. (Anti-estrogen drugs will also be given since the carcinoma in her left breast was also diagnosed as estrogen and progesterone positive).
