Ms. Debbie Hewett Debbie Hewett’s Recovery

Thank you for taking a moment to view Ms. Hewett’s site and read her story.  She NEEDS A LOT OF HELP/ASSISTANCE on her longggg journey to recover from a major car accident that happened on 3/27/2021!!!
For Spring Break, Ms Hewett, her mom Momma Hewett (Molly Hewett) and a friend were heading up to Mammoth Lakes for a fun, week long vacation in the mountains of Mammoth Lakes, CA.   Approximately 2 hours into the trip, the driver made an extremely unsafe lane change! He over corrected, hit the soft shoulder, and rolled the F350 Ford truck multiple times on Ms Hewett and Momma Hewett’s side of the truck!!!  The roof caved in!  Thank God a local “Norco” Chiropractor came upon the “dust” and her gut told her to go see why.  She saw the truck and ran down to help!  Jennifer Wells owner of Back Country Chiropractic in Norco literally held Debbie’s head straight so that she did  NOT injure her spinal cord while they waited for the First Responders to show up.!!!
Sadly, Momma Molly Hewett passed away on the way to the hospital!  Ms. Hewett had to be flown to Antelope Valley Trauma Hospital!!  She had to have her neck completely rebuilt: 2 metals rods, metal plates, a discectomy and a cadaver bone!  They had to stabilize her head with a metal metal halo screwed directly into her skull!!!  She had a stroke and seizures!   She had to spend 2 weeks in the hospital while she recovered from the surgery and became stable enough to be able to transfer her by ambulance to an excellent rehabilitation center.  She then spent a total of  3 weeks of  physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and sooooo much more!!!   She has to relearn to do even the simplest of things like how to eat because of her severe injuries and the metal halo still being on!    Then finally went home!
After many weeks in the halo  (NOT SLEEPING AND EXCRUCIATING PAIN 24/7)  she finally had it removed about 2 weeks ago.  They placed her in a very restrictive neck brace because of the severity of the break and the need to rebuild it!  They also do not want her to damage her spinal cord because as of now she has use of her arms and legs!  All of the Trauma ER Drs said that she is a “TRUE MIRACLE!”
Debbie has been blessed with help from family and friends since she came home, but many of them are having to go back to work.  She NEEDS A LOT of help from all of her friends, family, Norco Intermediate Bobcat Families, and Norco/Corona Community Members.  Debbie is a BELOVED 7th and 8th Grade Science Teacher at Norco Intermediate School.  She has been teaching for many years and is a huge part of this community.  Her kids NEED HER and SHE NEEDS THEM!!!
