Dave was diagnosed with MDS, Myelodysplasia Syndrome with extra blasts  on August 21, 2017 by Dr. Lindsay Overton, Confluence Health of Wenatchee. Dave was referred to the expert Dr. Elihu Estey, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance who said if he had a few more percentage points of blasts it would be AML, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. We moved temporarily to Seattle on August 26, 2017 and he started an experimental drug trial on August 29, 2017.  He has had four sets of chemo treatments and radiation  thus far. He is in remission--no leukemia cells were found. He was in the hospital from Nov. 17, 2017 to January 8, 2018 with infections.  He joined the Transplant Team on February 14, 2018, and received a stem cell transplant on March 28, 2018. He received cytoxin on March 31 and April 1, 2018. He began producing white blood cells and neutrophils on Day 16 from transplant, April, 13, 2018. He was in the hospital from March 28, 2018 to April 30, 2018 recovering from the chemo, radiation, and transplant. We are now going to live within 30 minutes of the U of W Med Cr for 100 days from the stem cell transplant date of March 28, 2018.
He began producing a normal number of white blood cells and neutrophils on Day 34. He is still immunosuppressed.  He has begun to produce red blood cells and platelets.  We get to go home on August 7, 2018! ServiceMaster of Moses Lake, WA cleaned up our mouse house so we could go home. Our friends moved everything out of our house, upstairs and down, and moved it into a storage unit. We are home, having arrived August 7, 2018. Yay!!!
Dave's blood numbers started halving in February 2019 and he was diagnosed with AML with 30% blasts. He will stay in Omak and get Decitabine starting April 1, 2019. He started Venclexta in May. He is hospitalized at Central Washington Hospital. We are returning to Omak and hospice on May 11, 2019. Dave passed away at 2 PM, on May 17, 2019, Norwegian Independence Day, a day he loved and celebrated every year. His funeral services include a rosary at 7 pm on May 24, 2019 at the Omak Longhouse, dinner will follow. The funeral mass is set for Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 10 am at the Omak Longhouse, and a dinner will follow. Internment at Hall Creek Cemetery, Inchelium, WA after Mass.
