HERE WE GO AGAIN! By Diane Ludwig (

It's Thursday, September 18, 2014 and we're counting down to another surgical journey for Dave scheduled for Tuesday, the 23rd. This time we're steered to the world-renowned, Cleveland Clinic, because our surgeon, Dr. M.Thusay, has determined over a period of several years of follow up, that Dave's residual open abdominal wound and protrubent abdominal hernia is a direct result of the disintegration of mesh that was implanted during a previous abdominal hernia surgery (2010). His initial surgery in 2009 was necessitated by the discovery of multiple colon polyps determined to be pre-cancerous. The implanted mesh had to be disrupted to alleviate a bowel obstruction that led to the surgical crisis of 2010/2011, which almost cost him his life. We spent the Christmas and New Years holidays at Bay Park Hospital and he was finally discharged home after three long weeks. Even though his condition was extremely critical in those first few days, he fought to stay with us and made a remarkable, albiet extremely complicated recovery. Due to the complexity of Dave's previous surgeries, Dr. Tomasz Rogula of CC has been delegated to perform a "separation component" hernia surgery, which we're told is more complex than most herniorraphies. We will be headed to Cleveland on Monday, staying at a nearby hotel, since it's a 2-hour drive from our home. He is tentatively scheduled for surgery at 7:30 am on Tuesday.
