Dan Randall

Dan’s cardiac health journey began almost 12 years ago when we discovered he had an aortic aneurysm at the point where his aorta attaches to his heart.

One evening, Dan suffered a severe case of heartburn that progressed to pain down his arm. I took him to the hospital because the symptoms he was experiencing were some commonly associated with a heart attack. While nothing out of the ordinary was determined at his overnight hospital stay that night, a follow up with a cardiologist led to an echocardiogram. The results of the echo identified the aortic root aneurysm.

We’ve been monitoring the diameter of the aorta since this diagnosis. Three years ago, significant growth was detected. The growth has continued to be seen at his yearly appointments. The cardio thoracic specialists are now measuring the diameter at 5.7cm making the risk of spontaneous dilation greater than the risk involved with having the surgery to repair the dilated aorta.

Surgery has been scheduled for November 12 at the Cleveland Clinic. Dan and I will leave from Greenville on November 7 and plan to arrive in Cleveland on November 8. Pre-surgery testing and appointments with the surgeon and specialists will be held on November 9-11.

Following surgery they expect Dan to stay in the hospital for 5 days. We are then asked to remain in Cleveland for a few days after being discharged from the hospital. They will schedule  a follow up appointment for Dan before we head home. We are hopeful that we will be home before Thanksgiving!
