On June 15, 2017, Claire was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancerous tumor that is growing on the back of her pelvic bone. The tumor is relatively small and does not involve the sacroiliac joint.
It is difficult to understand God's plan in this, but we have several blessings on our side: 1) Thanks to Dr. Nancy Dickason and Dr. Scott Dorffman, this was caught right away. 2) Chest X-ray, chest CT, MRI, bone scan and PET scan have all been clear of any spread of the tumor or distant disease. 3) Thanks to Dr. Val Lewis - we were able to receive amazing care quickly. She put us into the hands of an amazing oncologist, Dr. Cynthia Herzog, who will begin Claire’s chemo.
Moving forward, Claire will have approximately 3 months of chemo to start which will be given inpatient every two weeks. Then Val will perform the surgery that removes the bone involved by the tumor. After the surgery, she will have about 6 more months of chemotherapy.
The approximate start date of Claire’s inpatient therapy will be around July 5 or 6. She is enjoying EHS summer school and cheer for as long as she can…
Claire loves hearing from and seeing friends.
“Once we can accept that God is in all situations, and that God can and will use even bad situations for good, then everything and everywhere becomes an occasion for good and an encounter with God.” — Richard Rohr
