I have recently been reminded about CaringBridge and have decided that it is the best way to keep everyone updated in one place. I hope you'll follow along with me. I ask for your prayers and good thoughts, particularly for Dave and Chris, who are having a harder time with all this than I seem to be.


Six years ago, I was diagnosed with Stage 3b colon cancer. I was under 50, it was my screening colonoscopy, and I had no symptoms. I had a colon resection and underwent 12 chemo treatments over the course of 6 months, concluding on Thanksgiving day.  Five years later, to the exact day (including the fact that in both instances it was Good Friday), I was diagnosed with my first recurrence. This time it was 5 treatments of high dose radiation and another surgery. About 9 months later, January 2020, I was diagnosed with my second recurrence. I was scheduled was another 12 chemo treatments with a different cocktail of drugs. One drug in particular caused me to lose all my hair pretty quickly. Dave shaved my head on my birthday and that was really hard. After treatment #7, I had a CAT scan that showed some wonky areas in my liver. A subsequent liver biopsy was negative for cancer but my doctor, his practice partner, and the radiologist are still skeptical about this outcome. Chemo has been stopped until we get to the bottom of this liver thing. As of today, I am waiting to be scheduled for a PET scan to determine next steps.
