Christian Lee Snaith was born on August 7th to my brother and sister in law, Shawn and Ellie Snaith at 7pm at Genesis Hospital in Davenport. After only a few hours from birth, Christian had trouble breathing. It became apparent that his lungs were not fully developed and needed surfactant. His lungs were working too hard and was moved to the NICU at Genesis for extra support. Christian was put on CPAP but eventually was unable to maintain his saturations and his respirations and was intubated. He then vomited had possible aspiration pneumonia. Overnight things turned for the worse, going into cardiac arrest once and was revived and then had a couple times where his oxygen level dropped to 28%! He was rushed to Iowa City at the University of Iowa Hospital. Christian was blessed and baptized by a Priest as well prior to transport. Since being in Iowa City, Christian has been making positive changes and is looking better. They are slowly weaning him off of oxygen, however he is still not breathing on his own. The doctors are very optimistic and said that Christian is out of the danger zone and he will make it! God has answered our prayers! However, Christian has Pulmonary Hypertension and still needs lots of prayers, time and rest to treat the infection.
