Cheryl (Cherie) Samuels....loving mother and wife met her maker November 29, 2006 at 4:25 MST peacefully with her family surrounding her and holding her hands. She had suffered from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and mercifully her Lord took her away quickly and with very little pain.

Mom started having signs of something being dramatically wrong about July of 2005. She noticed having slurred speech while on a cake decorating convention in New Orleans. Over the past year and a half, Mom started having signs of different ailments. She was diagnosed with a virus of some sort. She went to chiropractors, doctors, accupuncturists, and all sorts of naturopaths. Her Lou Gehrig's Disease was only diagnosed accurately a couple of weeks ago. Most people with the disease have issues with their lower extemities first and some people end up dealing with the disease for years. Mom's variation of the disease (Bulbar) starts in the mouth area, by causing weakness in the muscular structure. The neuromuscular control of swallowing and breathing are the final stages of the disease. Her slurred speech grew worse over this last year, and it became very hard to understand her the last three weeks. She checked into the hospital on the 13th of November for final tests. Mom was often uncomfortable as her body started shutting down, but the hospital staff at Penrose did a great job of trying to understand Mom. She started writing directions to the staff in multiple notebooks which the family has been able to keep which documents her last two weeks on the earth. Our family was all able to spend the Thanksgiving holiday together in her room, and we were all able to have time to say our goodbyes. Mom was heavily sedated on the 29th of November as we held her hands all day. We laughed and cried and told stories as the doctors said she could hear us, but could not respond. At 4:24 pm my dad kissed her head and said "You can let go now" and then "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into his kingdom!" Mom took two last breaths and came to full peace for the first time that I could remember in years. Mom got to go on our family cruise this year (all kids, spouses, grandkids and my mom's parents) in January to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Mom also got to go to Disneyworld with Sean, Susan, and their kids in October. Mom's life was built around service to God, her family, and all who came in contact with her. We will miss her greatly, but are comforted in the faith which she helped teach us all. Loving God and loving our neighbors is what life is all about. It is with this thought that we dedicate this website to a true Proverbs 31 woman.....Cheryl Yvonne (House) Samuels. Mom, we will miss you, but we will make you proud! We look forward to being with you in the future! Save us seats!
