Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. Please feel free to leave any comments in the Guestbook session.

This is Kathy McPhillips, a friend of Cheryl's. Cheryl asked that I start this site for her to keep people informed about her cancer journey.

Cheryl was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months back. She had become jaundiced and went into the doctor. A cancerous tumor was found on the head of her pancreas. The cancer was found early and had not spread to any other areas.

Cheryl did three rounds of chemo and then it was discovered the chemo was affecting her liver to the extent the doctor no longer felt it was safe for Cheryl to continue with the chemo treatments.

The next step will be surgery to remove the tumor. Most likely the surgeon will be performing the Whipple procedure on Cheryl. This is a very complicated surgery with a long recovery for Cheryl. She will be in the hospital for anywhere from 7 - 14 days with a 2 -3 month recover after that.
