This is going to be tough…

As a few of you know, mom has not been feeling well for the past few months. She had a swollen lymph node that kept getting bigger these last few months. I finally got her to go see her PCP and he ordered a Biopsy. Before the appointment came around she had some severe pain and our dear friend, Barry, took her to the ER. There, on July 27th, 2021, she was diagnosed with cancer. After the biopsy they confirmed it was stage IV metastatic breast cancer.  She had had a preventative mastectomy in 2019 so we were very confused.

We got her in very quickly with Dr. Assikis at Piedmont Cancer Newnan. He was wonderful and very hopeful. Though BRCA2 positive, she had an estrogen and progesterone positive cancer. There was treatment. Sadly her health has steadily declined and her CA27-29 tumor markers went from 2,195 to 23,665 over the course of 6 weeks. She had gone to rehab nursing last week, as she had asked, but declined so rapidly that today I made The decision to have her brought home to pass peacefully with her family using Sacred Journey Hospice. Please refrain from calling or texting her. She is sleeping and not responsive anymore.

Love,
Saskia
