Kara has been diagnosed with a rare disorder that falls within the spectrum of Pentalogy of Cantrell.
Pentalogy of Cantrell is characterized by a combination of birth defects. For Kara, these birth defects involve the breastbone (sternum), the muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdomen and aids in breathing (diaphragm), the abdominal wall (Omphalocele), and the heart (Partial Ectopia Cordis).
Kara will be delivered on Oct. 28th via a C-Section. Immediately following delivery, she will be monitored closely by the doctors at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital. She will then need to undergo complex surgeries to repair these defects.
After surgery, she will have a very lengthy recovery process in the care of the NICU team at the Minneapolis Children’s Hospital.
We have many people that we know will want to get updates on how things are going. It may be a bit much to update everyone individually, and so we wanted to use this as a platform for people to follow.
