Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are going to use this to update family and friends.  First and foremost, Bud is still critical but stable and out of surgery.  Here's what transpired today 10-7-19:  At around 11:00 this morning I received a call from a neighbor that at Bentley Road and 11 Mile Bud was hit by a handicap transport bus as he was waiting to turn while on his motorcyle.

When I arrived the paramedics were stablizing him waiting for flight care.  He had multiple injuries but no head injury due to his helmet.  He sustained bilateral compound fractures of his lower legs.   Several bones in his left hand were broken.  The most serious injury was to his face involving fractures of his maxilla (upper part of his jaw) and fractures of bones surrounding the sinus.

He was airlifted to Covenant in Saginaw where he received 8 units of blood, 2 of plasma and platelets.  Due to uncontrolled bleeding related to the blood thinners he was taking they decided to stabilize him as much as possible and fly him to University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  It is a miracle he survived the flight as we almost lost him before the flight.

He was taken to surgery and orthopedic surgeons temporarily stablized his fractured legs with rods and pins until further surgery can be done.  The Oral Maxillofacial surgeons reconstructed his maxilla by implanting four plates to attach his maxilla to cheekbones.  His nose had some reconstruction but will need further repairs.

Thank God he had his helmet on and has no head injuries and also no internal injuries.  The fact that he survived the flight to U of M is a miracle and also that he made it through surgery.  We would appreciate your prayers as he has long road to recovery and the next few days are crucial.

Love Gretchen and family
