On January 18, Betsy and Dan heard the term “Invasive Ductal Carcinoma" and learned that Betsy has stage 3 breast cancer. As we all know, Betsy is strong, brave, and able to do hard things. She’s a goddamn cheetah.
Betsy has undergone lots of poking, prodding and examinations in the last 12 days in the search for all the information she can get and plans for treatment.
After an excessive number of appointments and research, Betsy and Dan have decided to utilize UC Health for their care. UC Health offers a treatment team approach and specializes in young women with breast cancer. The team recommends chemotherapy for 18 weeks and then surgery to remove the tumor. Radiation is also a possibility down the road.
On the bright side; Everyone on the treatment team agrees that this type of cancer is very responsive to treatment and that Betsy being young and healthy is a bonus.
One thing that has brought hope of the future is Betsy and Dan’s decision to seek fertility treatment. Betsy is in the process of retrieving eggs for freezing to look towards the possibility of a future little Cox.
Next week Betsy will continue with lots of appointments to have everything in place to begin chemotherapy in the next couple weeks.
Please continue to send prayers, good vibes and lots of love this way. Updates will be made to this site as often as possible.
