Barney Whealen

Hi Everyone.  I know some of you know Barney's story  but for those of who do not I will try to make it brief. After experiencing some symptoms like weakness, unexpected weight loss and discovering a hard mass like area in his lower abdomen Barney had a Colonoscopy that confirmed our suspicions of some type of Cancer. On June 14 we were told that Barney had Mantle Cell Lymphoma.  This is not a common Non Hodgins Lymphoma because only about 5% of cancer patients get this type. We had difficulties with the local oncologist that was recommended to us in Stuart so we opted to find a different  doctor and hospital and our search led us to the Cleveland Clinic in Westin, Florida which is about 1.5 hours south of Stuart. It's has a great reputation as one of the top hospitals in Florida and nation for cancer treatment.  Barney was admitted to the hospital on 7/5/17 and he started his Chemo treatments last night (7/7/17) and has now had two treatments.  We have a wonderful doctor - Dr. Chieh Lin FU and we love her.  The nursing staff are awesome too! So we feel Barney is in good hands.  Many of you have been calling and texting so we thought this site would be good way to get the updates out to you. I will try to update you periodically so that our family in Colorado and New Jersey and our friends that are scattered everywhere can keep tabs on Barney's progress.  Barney is determined to beat this and appreciates all of your positive thoughts and prayers.
