On Saturday, September 2nd at 3:30 am, Barney was admitted to St. Luke's ICU with an exacerbation of his pulmonary fibrosis compounded by pneumonia. This led to acute respiratory failure which necessitated the use of a ventilator. Barney was then placed in a medically induced coma so that his body can rest and hopefully recover while the machines are assisting his breathing. This has been an extremely trying time as earlier in the week, Lynn and Barney lost their home, cars and possessions due to the excessive flooding from Hurricane Harvey. I cannot describe the devastation that we are going through, but I know that Barney has a strong will and would not give up without a heck of a fight.
We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and will keep you posted. In the meantime, for Barney’s comfort and safety, as there are lots of germs floating around, we are no longer able to allow visitors to drop in to the ICU. We will contact you directly when we are in need of relief and will appreciate your help in taking our place for brief periods of time.
