My Story In February of 2007 I was diagnosed with SLL/CLL, small lymphocytic lymphoma/ chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a slow growing cancer of the lymph nodes and blood. I was checked at Mayo every 6 months and there was no need for treatment. On April 8 I had been checked with no major changes. However, in May I was becoming weaker and on May 20 went to see the Dr. My hemoglobin was at 5 (should be 11.8 -15.5) and was sent immediately to Methodist Hospital where I remained for a week. They gave me 4 units of blood and diagnosed me with AIHA (autoimmune hemolytic anemia) a known complication of SLL/CLL, the cancer I have. I was put on 65 mg. of prednisone daily. On Friday May 24 I was given 2 more units of blood and was released on Monday, May 27 after 1 week in the hospital. The next week I went to the hospital daily for blood checkups. On Saturday June 1 received 2 more units of blood in the ER of Methodist as my hemoglobin was running low again. That totals 8 units of blood. I was scheduled to see Dr. Habermann, my Mayo oncologist/hematologist on June 4th to determine the course of treatment. I thank each of you for your prayers, care & concern & love. Will keep you posted as things progress. God is faithful and I have a wonderful Dr. at Mayo. Love, Barb
