Jack McKew Ethan McKew Heart Surgery

First post: Dec 15, 2018 Latest post: May 1, 2019
Jack McKew and his partner Avery McAllister are having a baby! He will need heart surgery almost immediately after birth.

Jack and Avery were thrilled when they learned they were to be parents. Their bundle of joy is due in January. What a great way to start a new year! When they learned the baby is a boy, they were so excited. Like all new parents, they immediately loved this little guy so much and began planning for his arrival.

During Avery’s 5th month of pregnancy, a routine visit to the doctor became anything but. The young couple learned that their baby had a heart malfunction. You can imagine their fear for this little boy. Their doctors in Portland could not give the baby the care he needed, so they referred them to Children’s Hospital in Boston—the best of the best in pediatric cardiac care.

A grueling day of tests at Children’s confirmed that the baby has a rare condition called Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve. The good news is that the cardiologists assure the young parents-to-be that the problem is fixable. He will need surgery when he is born, but the prognosis is good. He will run and play and enjoy a healthy life.

No parent wants to hear that their little one needs surgery, especially immediately upon birth. But, they have a positive attitude and believe he will be okay. However, the cost of his care is overwhelming. Even with health insurance, the medical bills are already mounting. This campaign will help them bring their baby boy home with less stress about those bills.

We are so grateful for supportive family and friends. We have set up a crowdfunding site on GoFundMe to raise money so these young parents can start their new family life without the weight of hefty medical bills. Thank you for your support!
