I was diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer in 2018. I had a robotic hysterectomy and was declared cancer-free. In March of 2021, I was diagnosed with a reoccurrence that has also affected my liver and peritoneum. I spent the entire summer visiting friends and family in Colorado while also getting treatment from a Chinese medicine man and an energy healer. Scans have revealed more stability than not, with a slight growth in the tumor at my vaginal cuff. I have opted for surgery because of the tumor location--wedged up against my bowel. Not crazy about further growth into my gut.
Cancer is teaching me so much about what it's like to be me and for that, my gratitude runs deep. Do I love where I'm at? Not especially so, but I learned this summer how strong and resilient I am and that I can handle anything. So on October 20th, I am having surgery to remove the cancer. It's a doozy of a surgery and I am only focusing on what I want which is a clean surgery with no impact to my bowel, bladder, or rectum. Both my gyn/onc and the liver doc are optimistic that everything will go smoothly and I believe them- even if I am a little scared of the whole thing.
