Nobody wants to hear the word “cancer”. Today was a total mix of emotions in regards to this word. As our family celebrated the 10 year anniversary of my niece having surgery to remove the tumor in her chest that set her on the path to being cancer free for 10 years, we also sat in the oncologist’s office and received the diagnosis for our mom. Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Things started in March with some abdominal issues. In July they diagnosed her with an ulcer and started treatment for that. In August they did a CT scan and found a 3 cm mass on her pancreas. At an appt to further investigate what that mass was, they noticed a small lump on her left neck near her collarbone. On September 22, they removed that lump and found it to be a metastatic adenocarcinoma which lead us to today’s appt. At this time, the plan is to do a PET scan on Friday to determine the extent of the spread. She will have a port placed next week and start chemo on October 16th. It has been a rollercoaster flood of emotions already and we have only begun this journey. Please keep all of us in your prayers in the days and weeks to come.
