Thank you for taking the time to check in on this little lightning bug! Little Miss Aiven was born at 35 weeks after momma was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia. Aiven was not responding as well as they liked so she was taken away and provided with oxygen and several minutes of stimulation. She was eventually taken to the NICU where they hooked her up to an IV for extremely low glucose levels. She was then given an NG tube that went into her nose to provide breast milk directly into her stomach. After a few days they were able to wean her off the IV and we started working on feedings, both by breastfeeding and bottling. The next six weeks we worked tirelessly to get her to take feeds with some successes but more failures than not. We tried so many different things to help her learn but we were unable to reach the numbers needed to bring her home. Aiven received an MRI and did a swallow study along with an X-ray of her GI tract, which were all normal. After six weeks, Bozeman Deaconess agreed it was time to send us to St. Vincent’s in Billings. We are hopeful for progress and that we may be able to bring her home soon!!
